Each band is the wells that first produced in that year, so the stack shows what is holding today's rate up and how much of it is new drilling. Every band is measured volume — no cohort is modelled.

2,983 well locations inside the Austral footprint, drawn where they are — every dot is our own data. The faint country outlines, place names and a latitude/longitude grid beneath them is published boundary geometry, drawn for orientation only; there is no basemap. A further 85 wells we track here are not drawn — no published coordinate, or outside this frame.

Well counts are shown on two independent bases — rock-evidenced (a formation assignment backed by regulator-reported formation evidence) alongside the total footprint (every well inside the county-based definition). The two overlap heavily, but neither contains the other: rock evidence follows the formation wherever it was drilled, including outside the county lines. See the methodology for why we don’t infer play membership.

What the data shows

  • The Austral footprint produced 3.9 MMbbl of oil and 349.2 Bcf of natural gas in 2025 (reported to the regulator).
  • The Austral footprint gas production peaked in 2019 at 425.2 Bcf; 2025 output of 349.2 Bcf ran at 82% of that peak (reported to the regulator).
  • Austral is a producing AREA, not a single rock target: the 3,068 wells here are grouped by where they are, across every formation and trajectory drilled inside it.
