Each band is the wells that first produced in that year, so the stack shows what is holding today's rate up and how much of it is new drilling. Every band is measured volume — no cohort is modelled.

Where the wells are

A map of 779,587 well locations inside the Mid-Continent footprint for which CommoVision holds a published surface coordinate, each drawn where it is, over faint state and county outlines, place names and a latitude/longitude grid for orientation.
779,587 well locations inside the Mid-Continent footprint, drawn where they are — every dot is our own data. The faint state and county outlines, place names and a latitude/longitude grid beneath them is published boundary geometry, drawn for orientation only; there is no basemap. A further 1,318 wells we track here are not drawn — no published coordinate, or outside this frame.

Well counts are shown on two independent bases — rock-evidenced (a formation assignment backed by regulator-reported formation evidence) alongside the total footprint (every well inside the county-based definition). The two overlap heavily, but neither contains the other: rock evidence follows the formation wherever it was drilled, including outside the county lines. See the methodology for why we don’t infer play membership.

What the data shows

  • The Mid-Continent footprint produced 40.4 MMbbl of oil and 911.2 Bcf of natural gas in 2025 (best estimate including allocated volumes).
  • The Mid-Continent footprint gas production peaked in 2012 at 2.18 Tcf; 2025 output of 911.2 Bcf ran at 42% of that peak (best estimate including allocated volumes).
  • Mid-Continent is a producing AREA, not a single rock target: the 780,905 wells here are grouped by where they are, across every formation and trajectory drilled inside it.
